The penguins tried to minimize their case in the first match out, there were playing a lot of hockey.

The flyers stressed the importance of a better starts 1 game after their flight, say that they know that they cannot afford to keep stains the penguins of great power, a big advantage.
The result was irrelevant.

But Kennedy already in the third period, the penguins a 5-4 appeared the penguins give the major goal they so desperately need.
Instead, Couturier17 has to tie seconds later characterized and Jagr put before the flyers for the first time with less than 11 minutes to go. Coutucontrollers reported the successful tyres with 1: 49 remaining before Giroux of his six - night spot with an empty-net goal.
The purpose is in contrast to other electrical start by the penguins.

Needed less than a minute to mark with Kunitz the two objectives the Group tap in a pass from James Neal, that penguins give a start, run the Secondejeu from the right, and for the fourth time in the last five meetings between the teams.
Philadelphia coach Peter LaViolette burned his break his team a now well-worn Bell give. And as usual, it immediate results.
The Crosby sales has become a fork helplessly for Giroux. Marc-Andre Fleury was the first backup, but Talbot - 2009 cut the key role Pittsburgh Stanley run - hit in the rebound.
The penguins that four, responds in contrast to game 1 at the gates of the last FliegeERS.
Col of deft drop Crosby Martin turned in the third game Defender goal and first in four years.
And on Wednesday, a three goal first period not nearly enough.
The flyHe gathered equal to 3 after Giroux, which makes the at risk, then beat Fleury shot with a wrist for the second goal helpless Philadelphia of night.
The band took 6 seconds or as long as it took Kunitz, directly to a recovery and push the puck in open networks.
However, not the flyers would not back down. Couturier is short before the second break Horn with 4 delete connected each dynamics of Pittsburgh and the foundations for another victory by more flexible team in the National Hockey League.

Bobby Petrino, Arkansas fired after 4 seasons

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Bobby Petrino talked time and again about winning a national championship at Arkansas. From the day he was hired in 2007, Petrino never wavered in that goal or belief.

Petrino won't have that chance now, felled by scandal, and he blamed no one but himself for being fired.

"The simplest response I have is: I'm sorry," he said. "These two words seem very inadequate. But that is my heart."

Athletic director Jeff Long dumped Petrino on Tuesday and laid out a stunning laundry list of misdeeds against the man he hired away from the Atlanta Falcons four years ago.

He ripped Petrino for hiring his mistress and for intentionally misleading him about the secret relationship that was laid bare following their April 1 motorcycle ride together that ended in a crash. He said Petrino missed multiple chances over the past 10 days to come clean about an affair that had crossed the line from infidelity into workplace favoritism.

"He made the decision, a conscious decision, to mislead the public on Tuesday, and in doing so negatively and adversely affected the reputation of the University of Arkansas and our football program," Long said, choking up as he discussed telling players that their coach was gone. "In short, coach Petrino engaged in a pattern of misleading and manipulative behavior designed to deceive me and members of the athletic staff, both before and after the motorcycle accident."

The 51-year-old Petrino, a married father of four, maintained an inappropriate relationship with 25-year-old Jessica Dorrell for a "significant" amount of time and at one point gave her $20,000, Long said.

Long would not disclose details of the payment, or when the money changed hands, but said both parties confirmed the "gift." Kevin Trainor, a spokesman for Long, said the money came from Petrino, not university funds.

Petrino issued a lengthy apology and said he was focused on trying to make amends to his family.

"All I have been able to think about is the number of people I've let down by making selfish decisions," he said. "I chose to engage in an improper relationship. I also made several poor decisions following the end of that relationship and in the aftermath of the accident. I accept full responsibility for what has happened."

Dorrell, a former Razorbacks volleyball player, worked for the Razorbacks Foundation before she was hired by Petrino on March 28, four days before the accident on a rural road 20 miles outside Fayetteville. Long said she was one of three finalists out of 159 applicants and got the job after an unusually short time frame.

Petrino never disclosed his conflict of interest in hiring Dorrell or the payment and she clearly had an unfair advantage over the other candidates, Long said.

"Coach Petrino abused his authority when over the past few weeks he made a staff decision and personal choices that benefited himself and jeopardized the integrity of the football program," Long said.

Petrino has built Arkansas into a national power over four seasons, including a 21-5 record the past two years, and he was in the middle of a seven-year contract under which his salary averaged $3.53 million per year. A clause gave Long the right to suspend or fire the coach for conduct that "negatively or adversely affects the reputation of the (university's) athletics programs in any way."

Long said Petrino was fired "with cause" — meaning he will not receive the $18 million buyout detailed in the contract — and there were no discussions about ways to keep Petrino at Arkansas. Long met with Petrino on Tuesday morning to inform him there were grounds for termination and that the coach was "concerned" about that. Long sent Petrino a letter that afternoon to formally notify him he had been fired.

"I chose to do it in writing because that's the terms of his contract," he said.

Long declined to comment when asked about Dorrell's job status. She was hired as the student-athlete development coordinator for Arkansas football, paid $55,735 annually to organize on-campus recruiting visits for the team and assist with initial eligibility for each incoming player

She was "at one point" engaged to Josh Morgan, the athletic department's director of swimming and diving operations, according to a person with knowledge of the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity because the details have not been disclosed. The person said Morgan was still employed at the university.

Petrino finishes his tenure at Arkansas with a 34-17 record in four seasons, leading the Razorbacks to a No. 5 final ranking last season and a Cotton Bowl win over Kansas State. With quarterback Tyler Wilson, running back Knile Davis and others coming back, there is talk of Arkansas challenging the two powerhouses in the SEC West, national champion Alabama and national runner-up LSU.

And maybe the Hogs will. But they won't do it with Petrino.

The beginning of the end came on April 1, which Petrino at first described as a Sunday spent with his wife at an area lake.

Instead, he and Dorrell went for an evening ride and skidded off the road in an accident that left him with four broken ribs, a cracked vertebra in his neck and abrasions on his face. The avid motorcycle rider said the sun and wind caused him to lose control.

What he failed to mention, at a news conference two days later and to Long for two more days, was the presence of Dorrell other than a vague reference to "a lady" who had flagged down a passing motorist. That changed when the state police released the accident report. Petrino, tipped off by the state trooper who usually provides security for him during the season, informed Long 20 minutes before the report was released, and he admitted to what he called a previous inappropriate relationship with Dorrell. Long put him on paid leave.

It didn't get any better for Petrino. Audio of the 911 call reporting the accident revealed he and Dorrell didn't want to police called following the crash, and a subsequent police report showed he asked if he was required to give the name of the passenger during the accident.

Petrino was forthcoming about Dorrell's name and presence with investigators, but only after misleading both Long and the public during his news conference. The school even released a statement from Petrino's family the day after the accident that said "no other individuals" were involved.

The deception and the way Dorrell was hired were too much for Long.

"Our expectations of character and integrity in our employees can be no less than what we expect of our students," Long said. "No single individual is bigger than the team, the Razorback football program of the University of Arkansas."

The coach's tenure with the Razorbacks began under a cloud of second-guessing following his abrupt departure from Atlanta 13 games into the 2007 season.

Petrino left farewell notes in the lockers of the Atlanta players rather than telling them of his resignation in person. He was introduced later that night as the new coach of the Razorbacks, carrying with him a vagabond image after holding 15 jobs for 11 different programs/organizations in 24 seasons. He infamously met with Auburn officials in 2003 to talk about taking the Tigers' head coaching job while Tommy Tuberville still had it.

Yet he was welcomed in Arkansas and took the school to its first BCS bowl game following the 2010 season, losing in the Sugar Bowl to Ohio State. He improved his win total in every year. Arkansas was 5-7 his first season in 2008, 8-5 the second before finishing 10-3 and 11-2 during his last two seasons.

In his statement, Petrino said he and his staff had left Arkansas in better shape and wished for its success.

"As a result of my personal mistakes, we will not get to finish our goal of building a championship program," he said. "My sole focus at this point is trying to repair the damage I've done to my family. They did not ask for any of this and deserve better. I am committed to being a better husband, father and human being as a result of this and will work each and every day to prove that to my family, friends and others.

"I love football. I love coaching. I of course hope I can find my way back to the profession I love. In the meantime, I will do everything I can to heal the wounds I have created."

Assistant head coach Taver Johnson will continue to lead the program through spring practice, which ends with the school's spring game on April 21. Long said he has asked the rest of the staff, including offensive coordinator Paul Petrino, Petrino's brother, to remain at least through then.

Marlins' Guillen suspended 5 games for Castro flap

MIAMI (AP) — Ozzie Guillen sat alone at a podium and began in Spanish, then halted in the middle of a sentence when his voice wavered. The chastened Miami Marlins manager took a sip of water and cleared his throat, then continued.

Suspended for five games Tuesday for his comments lauding Fidel Castro, Guillen again apologized and said he'll do whatever he can to repair relations with Cuban-Americans angered by the remarks.

"I'm very sorry about the problem, what happened," said Guillen, who is only five games into his tenure with the Marlins. "I will do everything in my power to make it better. ... I know it's going to be a very bumpy ride."

The suspension by the team takes effect immediately. It was announced shortly before Guillen held a news conference to explain what he said.

Guillen, a 48-year-old Venezuelan, told Time magazine he loves Castro and respects the retired Cuban leader for staying in power so long. In response, at least two local officials said Guillen should lose his job.

At the news conference, Guillen said his comments were misinterpreted by the reporter, and he doesn't love or admire the dictator.

"I was saying I cannot believe somebody who hurt so many people over the years is still alive," Guillen told the news conference.

There was no immediate response to an Associated Press request for comment from government and sports officials in Cuba.

Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig said he supported the decision to suspend Guillen. He called Guillen's remarks in the magazine "offensive to an important part of the Miami community and others throughout the world" and "have no place in our game."

Guillen took responsibility for the uproar, and said it left him sad and embarrassed. He also said he accepted the team's punishment.

Outside an entrance to the Marlins' new ballpark, about 100 demonstrators wanting Guillen's ouster shouted and chanted during the news conference. The team didn't consider firing Guillen or asking him to resign, Marlins President David Samson said.

"We believe in him," Samson said. "We believe in his apology. We believe everybody deserves a second chance. Politics are a conversation I don't think you're going to be hearing more about from Ozzie."

With reaction to Guillen's praise of Castro escalating in South Florida, he left his team in Philadelphia and flew to Miami in an attempt at damage control. The Marlins and Phillies had the day off and resume their series in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

Guillen said he'll be there to apologize to his players — but he won't be in the dugout. Bench coach Joey Cora will be the interim manager. Samson said he expected no further discipline by Major League Baseball.

"The Marlins acknowledge the seriousness of the comments attributed to Guillen," read a statement from the team. "The pain and suffering caused by Fidel Castro cannot be minimized, especially in a community filled with victims of the dictatorship."

Selig said in his statement that "baseball is a social institution with important social responsibilities."

"All of our 30 clubs play significant roles within their local communities," he added. "And I expect those who represent Major League Baseball to act with the kind of respect and sensitivity that the game's many cultures deserve."

The suspension recalled the punishment given to Marge Schott, the late owner of the Cincinnati Reds. Schott so embarrassed baseball in the 1990s with inflammatory racial remarks and fond recollections of Adolf Hitler that she was suspended from ownership duties for a season.

About 100 reporters, photographers and cameramen attended the news conference. Guillen sat alone at the podium and began in Spanish, speaking without notes for several minutes before taking questions. Shortly after he started, his voice wavered in the middle of a sentence, and he paused to take a sip of water and clear his throat.

"This is the biggest mistake I've made so far in my life," Guillen said. "When you make a mistake like this, you can't sleep. ... When you're a sportsman, you shouldn't be involved with politics."

The news conference lasted nearly an hour, with about 80 percent of it in Spanish. Guillen said he was suspended without pay, but Samson later said the manager will be paid and will donate the money to Miami human-rights causes.

The firestorm came shortly after the Marlins opened their ballpark last week in the Little Havana neighborhood of Miami. The team is trying to rebuild its fan base with the help of South Florida's large Cuban-American population.

Guillen apologized over the weekend after the story broke, but some Cuban-Americans remained upset. One group planned a demonstration Tuesday before Guillen said he would fly to Miami.

Francis Suarez, chairman of the Miami city commission, said Guillen should be fired. Joe Martinez, chairman of the Miami-Dade County board of commissioners, said Guillen should resign.

Polarizing comments are nothing new for Guillen, who once used a gay slur referring to a reporter, defended illegal immigrants and just last week he said he drinks to excess after road games and has done so for years.

The manager twice appeared on a radio show hosted by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez in October 2005, when Guillen led the Chicago White Sox to the World Series title. Chavez is unpopular with many Venezuelans, especially those living in the United States.

"Not too many people like the president," Guillen said at the time. "I do."

Ozzie Guillen Marlins apologizes on the valve of Castro

Celtics shoot past Heat, 115-107

MIAMI (AP) — A week ago, the Boston Celtics beat the Miami Heat with defense. This time, they did it with offense.

Paul Pierce scored 27 points, Kevin Garnett added 24 points and nine rebounds, and the Celtics made their first eight shots of the fourth quarter to hold off the Heat 115-107 on Tuesday night.

Rajon Rondo posted double-digit assists for the 18th straight game, extending the NBA's longest such streak in 20 years with an 18-point, 15-assist effort. Brandon Bass added 12 points and 10 rebounds, while Avery Bradley scored 11 for the Celtics, who shot a season-high 61 percent and survived two possessions where Miami could have tied the score in the final quarter.

"We talk about it in fighting terms," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "We told them today before the game, you're in a boxing match, you expect to get hit. They're going to hit you. They did and we withstood it. I thought that was important for our team."

LeBron James finished with 36 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for Miami, which got 20 from Dwyane Wade and 18 from Mario Chalmers. Chris Bosh finished with 13 on 5-for-13 shooting for Miami, which has gone 5-5 in its last 10 games.

The Celtics beat Miami 91-72 in Boston on April 1, a game the Heat called "unacceptable" after establishing season-lows in scoring and shooting.

This one won't sit much better with the reigning Eastern Conference champions, who ousted the Celtics in five games from last year's playoffs and could see them in the second round of the upcoming postseason. No team had shot better than 55 percent against the Heat this season, and Boston's 115 points were two shy of matching a season-high against Miami.

"We left Boston feeling awful at our performance," James said. "I don't feel as bad tonight. Those guys, they were locked in. Not only did they make their open shots, they made their contested shots. ... When you've got it going like that, just tip your hat off. We tip our hat off to them tonight. They won it."

Boston improved to 18-7 since the All-Star break, and dealt Miami a blow in the race for the No. 1 seed in the East. The Heat fell three games behind Chicago after the Bulls beat the New York Knicks later Tuesday night.

"It took a while," Rondo said, "but we're peaking at the right time."

A layup by Wade got Miami within 108-103 with 2:22 left, before Garnett made a high-arcing jumper that dropped softly through the net, his 11th make in 14 shots.

That pretty much described the night. Whenever Miami got close, the Celtics found a way to hold them off.

"It's a game of runs," Pierce said. "You have one of the best teams in the NBA at home. You know they're going to make a run. That's what makes them who they are. They know how to turn it on. We did a good job of holding their runs to a minimum."

Miami had two shots to tie early in the fourth after being down by as many as 18 earlier, before Garnett made jump shots on four straight possessions, the average length of those makes being 19 feet.

A 10-0 run early in the first quarter gave Boston a quick lead — and that wasn't even the Celtics' best run of the opening period. Boston scored the last 11 of the first, the run actually becoming 13-0 when Garnett scored to open the second quarter, and Boston's lead was 35-22.

Everything the Celtics wanted, they got. Boston shot 61 percent in the first quarter, 62 percent in the second. Rivers used eight players, all of them making multiple shots by halftime. Of them, the only one who failed to make at least half his shots was Bass, who more than made up for that with six first-half rebounds.

Here's how well the Celtics were shooting: Miami went into the break shooting 51 percent from the field, 60 percent from 3-point range and 78 percent from the foul line — and Boston was at least 10 percentage points better in every department.

"None of us were expecting that," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "To give up 115 points on our home floor, that's not our style. And we're being made to feel uncomfortable right now. That's really the residual of the last three weeks or so. This is probably the one silver lining out of it, is our group, staff and players, we're getting to know each other now on the level that is needed for us to prepare for the playoffs.

"We all know we have to take a real big step forward as a basketball team," Spoelstra added.

The next chance for that "big step" comes Thursday, when the Heat visit Chicago.

Down by 18 in the first half, Miami cut the deficit to 65-57 at halftime. James closed it with a 3, punching the air as the shot dropped.

Even with that, every moment of the second half was an uphill battle.

And the Celtics weren't being caught.

Miami got within five twice in the third, with Rondo answering both times to make it a three-possession game again. The Celtics held the Heat to 36 percent shooting in the quarter, keeping the eight-point lead entering the fourth at 89-81.

The Heat had two chances to tie early in the fourth, after starting the period on a 7-0 run. The first of those slipped away when Bosh failed to finish off a three-point play opportunity by missing from the line. The next came when Udonis Haslem missed from the left baseline with 9:17 left, and Boston's answer that time was absolute.

Allen made a catch-and-shoot 3 for a 94-89 lead, and then Garnett just took over.

"When they shoot like that, it's going to be tough to beat them," Wade said. "Obviously, we can always do things better. But give them credit."

NOTES: Alex Terrio, a fan wearing a Heat T-shirt, won a 2012 Kia Optima for making a halfcourt shot in between the third and fourth quarters. "Shock," Terrio said. ... James had 11 points in the third quarter for the third consecutive game. ... Hall of Fame quarterbacks Dan Marino and Jim Kelly were at the game, as was Chicago Bears star Julius Peppers.

Update on the UFO situation

April 30, 2010 on 4:31 am | In History, JPL, NASA, NEWS, Social Networking, UFO CRASHES, UFO PICTURES, UFO VIDEOS, UFOs, Unidentified Flying Object | No Comments

Well, lots has been going on in the UFO field. Mostly more reports and surprisingly large amounts of sightings from the British Commonwealth nations. Great Britain, New Zealand, Australia have reports pouring in on a daily basis. Considering the British Ministry of Defense has stated that UFOs are no threat, mirroring what the United States has said for decades, it’s a bother that people have no where to turn officially to voice their concerns about UFOs.

The other day NASA had a press conference regarding their plans for searching for extraterrestrial life. They’ve not updated their website as of this posting regarding the conference so tabloid papers like The Sun from the UK posted articles claiming that the U.S. has found evidence of life on Mars. That story states life in microbial form is evident but no official announcement from NASA has been issued. I doubt very highly, almost certainly that the U.S. will never admit to extraterrestrial life in any form any time soon nor will it’s allies nor enemies.

I’ve mentioned this anomaly before. Legend has it that the U.S. is behind a global conspiracy to conceal the existence of extraterrestrials on Earth but that doesn’t excuse why our enemies wouldn’t make the declaration that they do exist. We know for a fact that the issue of UFOs has and still is of super top secret concern for the U.S. and our so called enemy states like Iran, China, Venezuela which all have daily UFO reports coming in have yet to post any disclosures. That’s curious in that they know it would upset the apple cart of U.S. policy and force the U.S. government’s hand in addressing the issue.

Curiouser and curiouser.

So at present the private sector and independent news services have to take the bulk of public concerns and collect UFO reports and data. This helps in that significant reports end up in that realm and not hidden behind government screens. That’s the wild card right there. At any given moment a new and astounding report can come through and go viral on the web and gum up the works.

As attractive as these accounts may be we still need to do the science, the raw investigation and not fall prey to sensationalism. My first rule of UFO investigation is “Never get excited about a UFO report.”. That keeps one’s analysis on an even keel and not subject to foolhardy steps.

So at best, keep an eye out for news reports and participate with the investigators.

There is one danger, a growing danger, the privatization of UFOlogy wherein the best reports get bought up and sequestered thus depriving the public of valuable data.

In these times of global upheaval we need all the data we can get.

Bubba shows a new way to win Masters

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — Bubba Watson is the Masters champion and a guy worth watching, whether that means spending money on a ticket or time in front of the TV. He keeps life simple, hits outrageously difficult shots and makes golf look fun.

What's not to like about that?

CBS Sports said its overnight rating from the final round of the Masters, which Watson won in a playoff over Louis Oosthuizen, drew an 8.1. That was down from the 10.4 the previous year when eight players — including Tiger Woods — had a share of the lead at some point and Charl Schwartzel won it with four birdies at the end.

Theories abound on the television audience. It was Easter Sunday, which typically brings lower ratings. Woods wasn't around — he tied for 40th for his worst finish in a major except for the three times he missed the cut. And to a broader audience, Watson didn't have much of a Q-rating unless someone happened to see some of his crazy videos or they just liked hearing his name.

That should change.

The winning shot for Watson, which instantly became part of Augusta National lore, was a gap wedge that he hooked out of the woods, around the trees and onto an elevated green that set up an easy par on the second playoff hole. He referred to it as a "crazy" shot and "pretty easy." For him, it was both.

Watson has been doing that stuff for years.

Just last month at Doral, with a tree in front of him and the green 135 yards away, he hit a 9-iron and aimed it 20 yards right of the green, and then sliced it back beyond the flag until the strong left-to-right wind pushed back on the other side of the hole, 6 feet away.

Yeah, pretty easy.

Watson made the rounds Tuesday, typical of a Masters champion, but with a few twists. Golf Channel wasn't on his list, but he paid a surprise visit in his green jacket for the "Morning Drive" show. Then, it was off to New York for scheduled interviews, concluding with David Letterman.

Asked about the TV ratings, Watson said golf was in a good place with younger players starting to emerge, and how he might reach some who aren't on tour yet.

"Hopefully, I can influence some kids to start playing ... and build the game bigger and bigger," Watson said on CNBC.

He's a tough act for anyone to follow because no one hits the ball the ball like Bubba. That's why Woods used to invite him along for practice rounds early in the morning at the majors. He was curious to see this self-taught guy from the backwoods of Bagdad, Fla., hit shots that went high or low, left or right, as if it were a whiffle ball, which is how Watson learned to play as a kid.

Anyone can hit the ball in the trees. The hard part is getting out of a mess, and that's what makes Watson fun to watch. His win at the Masters was a reminder that golf doesn't require the highest level of training. It just takes desire, and a lot of practice.

"I think people are going to realize everybody has a chance to do this," Watson said. "You don't need expensive golf coaches. You don't need expensive golf courses. You don't need all that. You can just learn to play in your backyard and go to the municipal courses and learn how to play."

That's the Bubba way.

That was the Seve Ballesteros way some 50 years ago when he manufactured shots with a 3-iron. Phil Mickelson had a chipping green in his backyard and learned how to hit shots that went behind him.

About the only ones not inclined to celebrate Watson's win are the coaches and psychologists.

Woods is on his fourth coach, which is four more than Watson ever had. His later father, Gerry, showed him the basic fundamentals of swing and grip, and Watson figured out the rest. It was always a game to him, and it still is. That element has been missing from so many players in this era of golf that makes millionaires out of more than 100 players each year.

"If I have a swing, I've got a shot," Watson said.

The fun side of Watson goes beyond the manicured fairways. In one of his videos, he calls his shot from his home — under the porch, over the roof and into the hot tub. He pulled it off — who knows how many times it took him and, really, who cares? He was so excited he jumped into the pool with his clothes on.

He has balanced himself on tires and tried to hit the ball teed up on another tire. He once showed off his power by driving the ball through a watermelon, and then took a bite out of what remained. In a desperate attempt to get on the Ellen DeGeneres show, he hit a golf ball from inside his house, over the pool and into a red bucket.

Pretty easy.

Watson once said kids were attracted to him because they like saying his name. Or maybe because deep down, he's still one of them.

He doesn't have a sports psychologist.

"Somebody else is going to tell me what I should think out there? That's not any fun," he once said.

He once said he would quit the game before he ever took a formal lesson.

"I don't want a team of people behind me showing me how to swing on computers. That's just not me," he said at Doral, where he nearly forced a playoff with a 4-iron under the palm trees and over the water on the scariest finishing hole in golf. "It's just like a math problem, except I probably wouldn't get the math problem right."

No, but he would have fun trying.

Miami Marlins suspend manager over Castro comments

MIAMI (Reuters) - The Miami Marlins baseball team suspended manager Ozzie Guillen for five games after he praised Cuba's Fidel Castro in a magazine interview, the team said on Tuesday.

The outspoken Guillen held a bilingual news conference on Tuesday in Miami - home to a large Cuban exile community - to apologize for a second time and said there were translation problems with the interview.

Guillen, who is in his first season as manager of the Marlins, has come under attack after saying he had "respect" for Cuba's ailing former leader.

"I love Fidel Castro," the Venezuelan-born Guillen told Time magazine's online edition. "You know why? A lot of people have wanted to kill Fidel Castro for the last 60 years but that motherfucker is still here."

He later apologized for the comments from Philadelphia, where the Marlins are playing the Phillies, saying he was deeply embarrassed by having offended Miami's large Cuban exile community.

"The Marlins acknowledge the seriousness of the comments attributed to Guillen," the team said in a statement. "The pain and the suffering caused by Fidel Castro cannot be minimized, especially in a community filled with victims of the dictatorship."

In an effort to make amends, Guillen, 48, traveled to Miami where he held a lengthy press conference on Tuesday, speaking in Spanish and English to further apologize.

"I'm here on my knees, apologizing to all the Latin American communities," said Guillen, who will not be paid while suspended.

He added that he was "very, very, very sorry," and felt "very embarrassed, very sad."

Known for making colorful and often controversial comments, Guillen blamed problems in translation in his interview.

"I was thinking in Spanish and said it wrong in English. I didn't say it correctly," he said. "What I wanted to say was I was surprised Fidel Castro stayed in power so long, considering what he's done. It was misinterpreted. I said I cannot believe someone who has hurt so many people is still alive."

"BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE"

Struggling for words at times and frequently switching between English and Spanish, Guillen said he would learn from his mistake and make it up to the community. He said he planned to make Miami his permanent home, not just for the remainder of his baseball career.

"I'm going to be a Miami guy for the rest of my life," he said. "I want to walk in the street with my head up and feel not this bad the way I feel right now."

Guillen said his Castro comments were "the biggest mistake so far in my life" and that he had not been slept well for three days as a result.

Several local Cuban-American politicians and civic leaders called for Guillen's resignation but Miami's Cuban-American mayor said he accepted his apology and urged the community to move on.

About 100 protesters gathered outside the Marlins' stadium waving Cuban and American flags, calling Guillen a "communist," and shouting in Spanish, "Get rid of him."

The controversy over Guillen's comments comes only a few games into a new season and at a particularly sensitive time for the Marlins. The team was rebranded and relaunched this season after leaving behind its old home at the Miami Dolphins football stadium in north Miami for a new life in a $515 million ballpark in Little Havana, the historic heart of the city's Cuban-American community.

Since the team's inaugural season in 1993, the Marlins have struggled with low attendance and management was hoping the move into the city's Latin community, plus a new high-profile Hispanic manager, would help build a new fan base.

Guillen formerly managed the Chicago White Sox, leading them to a World Series title in 2005. As a player, he was an All-Star shortstop, playing for five teams in a career that spanned from 1985 to 2000.

The Marlins brought him in from the White Sox in a bid to help turn around a team that had struggled for wins on the field in recent years, after winning the World Series in 1997 and 2003.

Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig issued a statement supporting Guillen's suspension.

"Baseball is a social institution with important social responsibilities," he said.

"Mr. Guillen's remarks, which were offensive to an important part of the Miami community and others throughout the world, have no place in our game."

Nearing the end of his nearly hour-long press conference, Guillen said the experience had taught him a useful lesson. "This is the last time in my life that I will talk about politics," he said.

Guillen has previously come under fire for his comments, including his use of a gay slur to describe a sports columnist and his acknowledgement that he drinks after road games.

In 2005, he appeared on a Venezuelan radio show and expressed a liking for Venezuela's leftist President Hugo Chavez, adding, "My mom will kill me."

He has since criticized Chavez and on Tuesday said he ever supported the Venezuelan leader, who is a close friend of Castro.

Owner of the Colts a 3 hour session with the chance of Andrew

Indianapolis (AP) - officials are even more, says Jim Irsai team impressed with lucky to Andrew after a meeting of three hours Tuesday in Indianapolis.

Colts owner wrote on Twitter that it is easy to see why is happiness and the No. 1 choice is synonymous with two years.

Irsai said that the Colts will keep a quarter with the No. 1 choice in the draft of the NFL this month. And there are strong indications the Colts while that chance, Director General of Ryan Grigson or said one-quarter of Stanford will choose Irsai for Indy.

Happiness is considered the more ready for NFL quarterback Peyton Manning No. 1 overall since 1998, when was taken by the Colts. Indy published last month, a gesture that many of them believe that happiness would be the No. 1 pick April 26 led Manning.

Darvish gets rough welcome to major league baseball

Yu Darvish did not get a dream debut, but he kept his nerve and his Texas teammates ensured the Japanese star got a win in his first Major League Baseball start.

Darvish, a two-time Japan League Most Valuable Player with the Nippon Ham Fighters, was tagged for five runs in the first two innings against the Mariners before the Texas Rangers rallied for an 11-5 victory.

Struggling with his command, Darvish gave up four runs in a 42-pitch first inning and surrendered another run in the second frame -- when he gave up two doubles.

Overall Darvish allowed five runs on eight hits and four walks. He struck out five, and four of the hits came against Japanese batters. Ichiro Suzuki was 3-for-4 off him, and Munenori Kawasaki was 1-for-2 with a walk.

It was a less than dazzling beginning for a player acquired prior to this season for a total of $107.7 million -- $56 million for his six-year deal and the rest just for the right to negotiate with him.

However, Darvish settled down to pitch 5 2/3 innings, departing with two outs in the sixth to a standing ovation with the Rangers leading 8-5.

Nelson Cruz hit a three-run homer in the third for Texas. Mitch Moreland and Josh Hamilton both homered in the fourth and Ian Kinsler added a three-run blast in the eighth.

"Just like you saw tonight, those guys are incredible. Just incredible," Darvish said of the offensive firepower demonstrated by his new teammates.

Darvish opened his highly anticipated major league debut by walking Chone Figgins on four pitches.

He struck out Dustin Ackley, but Suzuki lifted a high ball into left field for a single.

Justin Smoak singled to right to load the bases and Kyle Seager singled to center to drive home two runs.

A walk to Michael Saunders reloaded the bases, Miguel Olivo's single scored another run before Darvish walked Kawasaki to force home the fourth run of the first frame.

Rangers reliever Scott Feldman was warming up in the bullpen when Darvish got out of the inning by striking out Brendan Ryan and inducing Figgins to ground out.

RBI singles by Michael Young and Cruz brought home two runs for the Rangers in the bottom of the first.

Seattle responded in the top of the second inning with a one-out double by Suzuki, who scored on Seager's double.

Darvish showed his determination, however, as he retired 13 of 16 batters the rest of the way -- including one stretch of 10 straight -- before he was replaced by Alexi Ogando.

"Today was more of a mental battle for me," Darvish said. "I had to stay in there and battle with what I had. I thought whatever I had, if I could string those zeroes together, the offense would come back."

Darvish admitted he couldn't harness his energy in the first inning. Rangers manager Ron Washington knew what the problem was and opted to let his new star try to work through it.

"I wasn't going to go snatch him in the first inning," Washington said. "It seemed like he just couldn't get a hold of his emotions. He was over-amped."

Darvish was already settling after the second inning.

Cruz tied the game in the third with his three-run homer to left field. Moreland belted a two-run homer in the fourth, which was followed by Hamilton's massive solo homer to center.

"Our goal is to do what it takes to win the game and tonight that meant score runs," Kinsler said. "We were able to turn that up and put runs up for him.

"In the first inning to get those two runs to answer and put us close was huge. He felt like he was back in the game. He got a breather."

When Washington did finally head out to the mound to tell Darvish his day was done, the crowd of 42,003 at Rangers Ballpark sent him off to a chant of "Yu-u--u".

Rangers president Nolan Ryan was impressed with the fortitude Darvish displayed after his tough first inning.

"I didn't give him that much of a chance for the pure number of pitches he threw in the first inning and the fact that he didn't have a feel for anything," Ryan said. "He hung in there and looked like a totally different pitcher at the end than he did at the start.

"I look at it as a very positive outing."

UPDATE 1-Golf-Long flights give Oosthuizen time to reflect

* Flight time is thinking time for Oosthuizen

* Schwartzel kept Masters talk to a minimum

(Adds details, quotes)

KUALA LUMPUR, April 11 (Reuters) - After playoff heartbreak

at the U.S. Masters, Louis Oosthuizen spent every minute of his

near 30-hour journey to Malaysia thinking about what more he

could have done at Augusta.

The 2010 British Open champion lost on the second extra hole

to American Bubba Watson at the Masters late on Sunday before

making the lengthy journey across continents to compete in the

European and Asian Tour co-sanctioned Malaysian Open.

With his compatriot, friend and 2011 Masters champion Charl

Schwartzel alongside him, the weary South African said on

Wednesday the long journey had allowed him time to reflect on

his green jacket near miss.

"Every second on the flight I was thinking about what I

would have done different," the gap-toothed 29-year-old told

reporters while slumped on a sofa at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and

Country Club.

"But I think there probably isn't much I would have done

different. I felt like I gave it my all, didn't throw anything

away, played the best I probably could have coming down the

stretch in a major and I was outplayed.

"Being that close to the green jacket is tough to get over

it immediately but I think time will heal it and it just gives

me a bit more confidence when I put it on eventually that I will

be over it."

Schwartzel said he had been a nervous watcher of the final

round action and was full of praise for his friend, though he

thought it best keep Masters talk to a minimum on the flight.

"We have known each other for a long time and you know what

a player feels like so sometimes you just don't have to say

anything, you know what he is going through," an exhausted

looking Schwartzel told reporters.

"He is the type of guy that seems to get over things a

little bit quicker and like I said, sometimes you don't have to

say anything you just have to be a friend.

"It would have been quite a story if that had happened

(Oosthuizen winning). I think Louis probably played the best but

it just didn't turn out his way and sometimes it feels very

unfair."

A NICE SLEEP

The South African duo left Augusta on Monday morning and

touched down in Kuala Lumpur late on Tuesday night with

Oosthuizen's family making the late decision to join him on the

journey to Malaysia.

"We arrived last night at 11 at the hotel so yeah...,"

Oosthuizen said, his tiredness leaving him unable to finish his

sentence. "

I have got my wife and two kids with me this week, they

decided late to come with which is nice. I went to bed at two

this morning and just before five I woke up with my little girl

watching movies so yeah, not a lot of sleep."

The duo competed in the pro-am on Wednesday and have been

given an 0800 tee-off time in Thursday's first round where they

will play alongside Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee.

Asked if he was disappointed organisers could not afford him

a chance to rest on Thursday morning, the optimistic Oosthuizen

was looking at the positives.

"I was thinking I would have a nice sleep after," he said,

flashing a grin. "Sometimes it is also good to just get a

tournament underway. It will be a good round to see how the

concentration will be."

Pierce shines as Celtics douse Heat

Paul Pierce scored 27 points and Kevin Garnett added 24 as the Boston Celtics beat LeBron James and the Miami Heat 115-107, their second victory over the Heat in less than a fortnight.

Garnett added nine rebounds and Rajon Rondo scored 18 points with 15 assists -- his 18th straight game with double-digit assists -- as the Celtics backed up their 91-72 victory over the Heat on April 1.

While that victory depended on defence, it was offence that made the difference on Tuesday.

Brandon Bass added 12 points and 10 rebounds and Avery Bradley chipped in 11 points for the red-hot Celtics, whose 61 percent shooting was a season-high.

James finished with 36 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for the Heat. Dwyane Wade and Mario Chalmers had 18 apiece and Chris Bosh had 13.

Miami trailed much of the night, and when Bosh had a chance to tie the game at 89-89 when he was fouled on a scoring play he missed the free-throw.

The Celtics scored five of the next six points in the contest to take a 94-89 lead and quickly pushed their advantage back to double digits.

"That's a tough loss and none of us were expecting that," Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said. "To give up 115 points on our court, that's not our style."

With Kevin Garnett continuing his late-career revival in his new role as a center by making four consecutive fourth-quarter jumpers, the Celtics held on after the Heat closed within 89-88.

"They shot the ball very well," Wade added. "When they shoot like that, it's going to be tough to beat them."

Feliz wins starting debut as Rangers top M's, 1-0

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Neftali Feliz pitched seven crisp innings in his first major league start and the Texas Rangers beat the Seattle Mariners 1-0 on Tuesday night.

Feliz allowed four hits, struck out four and walked two in his first game since the former closer failed to hold a two-run lead in Game 6 of the World Series. The Cardinals won in seven games.

This time, Feliz watched the bullpen close it out. Mike Adams pitched a perfect eighth inning, and Joe Nathan did the same in the ninth for his second save.

Feliz was a shade better than Blake Beavan, who was pitching for the first time in the ballpark where he grew up watching the Rangers.

David Murphy had three hits and drove in the only run with an infield single in the second inning.

Feliz didn't have a strikeout after the fifth inning, and relied heavily on off-speed pitches instead of the 100-mph heat he used to get 72 saves over two seasons.

Feliz's pitch count was past 100 when he had runners at first and third with two outs in the seventh. Miguel Olivo hit a comebacker that Feliz bobbled, but he recovered just in time to beat Olivo's headfirst slide at first.

Like Yu Darvish a night earlier, Feliz let two of the first three hitters reach base — both on walks — but settled down much more quickly than the Japanese sensation. Starting with a double play, Feliz retired nine consecutive batters before allowing his first hit in 59 at-bats over 19 2-3 career innings against Seattle, a two-out single by former Ranger Justin Smoak in the fourth.

Beavan, a first-round pick by the Rangers in 2007, was almost as good. The Dallas-area high school product allowed six hits in 6 1-3 innings and pitched out of trouble in the fifth and sixth. He left with runners at first and second, but Tom Wilhelmsen escaped the jam.

Texas grabbed the lead in the second. Adrian Beltre led off with a double but was caught between second and third on a grounder back to Beavan. He stayed in the rundown long enough for Michael Young to get to second. Young then moved up on a wild pitch and scored on Murphy's infield hit.

NOTES: Mariners manager Eric Wedge benched SS Brendan Ryan for a game, saying it was over issues of "accountability." He didn't specify, but did say it wasn't solely because of an errant throw on a double-play ball that sparked the Texas rally that bailed out Darvish in his debut. Munenori Kawasaki started in Ryan's place. ... Jesus Montero was back in the Mariners' lineup as the DH after missing a game with a stomach ailment. ... Darvish and Feliz became the first back-to-back Texas pitchers to make their first major league start since Matt Harrison and Warner Madrigal did it in July 2008. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Darvish was the first pitcher in more than 100 years to win his major league debut after allowing at least four runs in the first inning.

White Sox watch former manager Guillen from afar

CLEVELAND (AP) — As Ozzie Guillen tried to explain his way out of another mess he created with his mouth, Chicago's new manager felt compassion for his predecessor.

Robin Ventura watched and wished the best for Guillen.

"It's a tough day for him," Ventura said Tuesday, hours after Guillen apologized in South Florida for comments lauding Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, remarks that led some to call for his firing. "He's a friend, so it was not easy to watch. He looked sincere and meant it."

Ventura was Guillen's teammate for eight seasons in Chicago. This year, he replaced the outspoken manager, who led the White Sox to a World Series title in 2005 before leaving them after eight stormy seasons during which Guillen often made headlines with outrageous remarks.

Most of Chicago's players declined to talk about Guillen's situation.

One willing to talk was infielder Gordon Beckham, who said most White Sox players believe Guillen's true feelings did not come out in the Time magazine article in which he said he loves Castro and respects the retired Cuban leader for staying in power so long.

"You feel for Ozzie," said Beckham, who played three seasons for Guillen. "I think all of the guys in this clubhouse knew what he meant when he said it. It was like, this guy (Castro) has had people trying to get him, take a shot at him, and he's lasted 60 years. Sometimes Ozzie says more than he should."

Guillen's comments were particularly personal for White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez, a Cuban. Still, he's ready to forgive his former manager.

"Apologizing is definitely a big first step," said Ramirez, who played for Cuba in the Athens Olympics. "Everyone has their opinion. But I also feel people should be forgiven. So if he's going to apologize, I feel that hopefully he'll be accepted."

The 30-year-old Ramirez left Cuba in 2007 and joined the White Sox in 2008.

"I would just say whatever his thoughts or comments are, those are Ozzie's comments," he said. "That's more on him. It's one of those (situations) that there are some people who like Castro, and there are some people who don't. You're in Miami, it's definitely a different thought frame. But that's his opinion, and it's not the same opinion I have."

Ventura, who was a surprise pick to take over in Chicago because he had never managed at any level, hopes to learn from Guillen's faux pas.

"I'm going to stick to just talking about baseball," Ventura said before the White Sox and Indians were postponed because of rain and cold weather.

Before the game was called, Ventura had altered his lineup a bit, inserting Beckham into the leadoff spot and giving Kosuke Fukudome a start in the outfield.

"I'm just trying to get Kosuke in there," Ventura said. "I put Gordon up at the top. For the first 20-25 games we will be cutting out a lineup. Don't read anything into it. There are no signs to it."

Beckham was excited to see his name at the top of the order, and pretended to be angry when the game was called about two hours before the scheduled first pitch. He stormed into Ventura's office and put on a show.

"If I get dropped eight spots in the lineup because of the weather, I'm going to be (mad)," he yelled, smiling toward reporters outside Ventura's office.

Beckham, who normally hits in the lower third of the order, was serious that he wanted the chance to bat first.

"I don't know if I've done it in the big leagues, but I probably have somewhere along the line," Beckham said of hitting No. 1. "It was more about giving (Alejandro) De Aza a rest and they just needed somebody to fill in. I was happy and excited to do it. Heck, I led off an inning three times in a game in Texas earlier this week, so I'm confident. Just trying to get on base and get the lineup going, that's a lot of fun."

Ventura will skip right-hander Philip Humber in the rotation and use lefty John Danks on Wednesday — weather permitting — in the series finale. The forecast is foreboding: more rain and cold.

"I hated to do it because we wanted to get (Humber) going," Ventura said. "But you have to sacrifice one guy for the other four. We'll go with Danks and keep everybody else in their same slots. Humber will work out of the bullpen."

Notes: The White Sox acquired INF Jose Castro from Cincinnati for cash considerations. Castro was assigned to Triple-A Charlotte. ... After hearing the weather forecast, Indians manager Manny Acta was pleased the game was called. "It was not going to be baseball," he said. "It was going to be survival. It was going to be harsh out there." ... Chicago's bullpen, which includes three rookies, has a 0.93 ERA through four games. ... The White Sox are 0-15 with runners in scoring position in their two losses.

Marlins suspend Ozzie Guillen for 5 games

MIAMI (AP) Miami Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen has been suspended for five games because of his comments about Fidel Castro.

The suspension by the team takes effect immediately. It was announced Tuesday shortly before Guillen was to hold a news conference to explain his remarks, which caused a public backlash.

Guillen told Time magazine he loves Castro and respects the retired Cuban leader for staying in power so long. At least two local officials said Guillen should lose his job.

Guillen left his team in Philadelphia and flew to Miami to apologize Tuesday at the Marlins' new ballpark. The Marlins and Phillies had the day off and resume their series in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

Brees: Saints will thrive in the wake of the bounty system

CARLSBAD, California (AP) - Drew Brees is sticking for the Saints and said that they will continue to prosper despite the suspension of the season long coach Sean Payton for his role in the system of premiums for New Orleans.

Speaking at a press conference to promote his charity golf tournament, said 2010 Super Bowl MVP that there is a difference between compensation performance and compensation for injuries.

Brees also refused to say if it shows shoulder season drives that begin Monday. It would be well over the extension in the long term with the tag of franchise, it is beaten.

Brees asked that if he felt that he was the target of a program of premium career had been.

"I know that it, that when a man has to take a shot on the quarterback, it will take," Brees said. "I do not say that it seeks to put an end to your career, it tries to give you a concussion or that you, but between the knees and neck, they try to get out you of all time." I know that for a fact, every defensive player trying to you hit. This is just football. We play a violent game. »
